Herbert Cuthbert Levett was a settler who came to New Zealand on the _Orient _in 1891. Levett was born in Derbyshire in 1867, was educated there, and was a member of the Rugby (poss. Rughy) Masonic Order, No. 502, before his emigration. After his arrival in Aotearoa, he joined his brother Edward in Kiwitea to learn about sheep farming. Some time passed, and he then bought a property on Beaconsfield Road known as 'Fairview'. The farm is described as consisting of 640 acres of grassed land, running about 900 crossbred sheep.
Levett was married to Lucy Helen Barwick, and they had a son named Harry George in 1902. At some point after Harry's birth, the family moved to Auckland. Levett passed away in September 1950, a few months after Lucy died. Harry died in 1967, remaining in Auckland until his death.
