Food and Fibre Minister John Luxton officially opened the Feilding Livestock Centre's new $500,000 cattle rostrum. Completely re-modelled after fire last year disrupted work on upgrading the facility, the new centre's inclusion of electronic data display and processing puts it among the country's most advanced buildings of its kind. The refurbished centre has been operating successfully for about a month already.

The article notes that at the time, Feilding saleyards was the third largest in the country, the stock turnover exceeded only by Addington in Christchurch and Stortford Lodge in Hawkes Bay.
