The demolition of buildings on Manchester Square. In October 2008, a large fire broke out in the commercial block, destroying several buildings that were already earmarked for demolition. Big Barrel and Farmers Mutual Group occupy the space now.

Showroom of McLeod & Svendsen

The interior of the electrical appliance shop, McLeod and Svendsen, located on the corner of Kimbolton Road and Manchester Square. The fashions (cloche hats and hemlines), suggest this photo was taken between 1925 and 1930. This photograph was supplied by Bernard Svendsen, whose father Albert Svendsen co-owned the shop from May 1923. The shop was sold in 1977 to Leader & Watt.

Window Display of McLeod & Svendsen

A window display in McLeod & Svendsen, an electrical appliance store once located on the corner of Kimbolton Road and Manchester Square. The exact date is unknown, but it is likely the photograph was taken during the late 1950's or the early 1960's, due to the PhiliShave electric razors and portable (transistor) radio advertising displayed. A note on the back of the photograph reads: McLeod & Svendsen's shop in the Square, Feilding. The frontage remains on new building in the Square today.

Visit of Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillary & Lady Hillary visited Feilding on Saturday 24th February 1996. The people of Feilding turned out to see Sir Edmund present certificates to Manchester Street School children, climb a calico Mount Everest in Manchester Square and be welcomed to Feilding. They both arrived at the Square in Peter Olsen's horse-drawn landau and left by helicopter for Kitchener Park. There they were welcomed by Hato Paoroa pupils before a crowd of about 500.
