The Feilding Sash and Door Company's timber factory, in Kimbolton Road, was extensively damaged by fire on 19th March, 1913. The fire started in the vicinity of the engine-room and from there spread in all directions. Gradually the fire was forced back from theoffices, which were practically untouched, and kept from spreading to huge stacks of timber. The part of the shed containing the stacks of rimu moulding and skirtings was the most difficult to extinguish, and the engine room was completely gutted. The estimate of the damage suffered was 2,000 pounds.
