Colonists Land and Loan Corporation - Accommodation House. Kimbolton Road opposite Tivoli - 1874/75

Built in 1876 by Douglas Hastings Macarthur, Feilding's first mayor (See PEO:in86). Situated at 185 West Street.

The Sandilands Building was erected in 1902 in Kimbolton Rd between Manchester Square and Stafford St. In 1983 The premises were occupied by Sidnams Fruit Shop, the Alene Dairy and Feilding Wallpaper and Paints. In 2004 consent was granted by the Environment Court to demolish the building subject to aa number of conditions. The current owner is working through these at the time of writing (April 2008) and it is likely that the building will be demolished later this year.

The date and photographer are unknown.

This marae was built in the early 1880's, for the visit of King Tāwhiao to the district, which occurred in 1883 according to articles from the Manawatū Daily Times and the Feilding Star. The marae was situated in Awahuri, on the east bank of the Ōroua River, and was built by Ngāti Kauwhata. The wharenui (Te Iwa) fell into disrepair in the early 20th century, and was destroyed by an unnamed cyclone that impacted the Manawatū and the Wairarapa during 1936.

The Bank of New Zealand's offices, built in 1907 and demolished in 1915. This building was constructed to replace the original office, which was built in 1881 on the same site.

Sandilands Building, photographed after it's completion in 1902. The wagon reads "J. Jacobsen General Carries Licensed No. 59". This building, one of the many commissioned by respected lawyer and eventual mayor W. A. Sandilands, was built by William Wilkinson, the man standing on the far right in this photograph.

Wilkinson constructed many of the more prominent buildings in Feilding, including The Denbigh Hotel, Feilding Technical School, and the Masonic Hall.

The Spooner family cottage on Warwick Street, built in 1878. The shingle roof on the shed at the back of the house indicates its age. The date of this photograph is unknown.

Feilding Hotel, located on the corner of Manchester Square and Kimbolton Road.

The Bramwell residence, date unknown. The Bramwells were a prominent family in the Feilding area - two of the Bramwell brothers owned and ran a successful grocers and ironmongers on Fergusson Street.

The Lyceum, photographed sometime after 1947, when it was renovated and renamed Regent Theatre. This photo was likely taken in the late 1940's or early 1950's, based on the showings advertised on the front of the theatre.

The theatre was situated at approximately 44 Kimbolton Road, where Mitre 10 is now.

An old cottage located on 17 Camden Street, photographed in 1898. The owner of the cottage and the photographer are unknown.

J. R. W. Taylor's Accommodation House in Feilding around 1875-1880. When the first party of immigrants arrived at the Manchester Block in 1874, no preparation had been made for their arrival. Instead of being allowed to erect homes for their families, the men were put to work to build a storehouse. When the women and children arrived, this storehouse was the only structure in Feilding. Led by J. D. Belk, the settlers commandeered the store for family accommodation.

The Feilding Hotel in 1910, after it was rebuilt from a fire on October 5, 1909. This was the second fire that occurred at the Hotel, and a fireman sadly lost his life in the blaze.

The interior of the new Post Office, built after the 1942 earthquake damaged the original Post Office and clock tower. In 1946, tenders were called for a new Post Office, and the new building was opened in October 1949, by the Postmaster General F. Hackett.

The first railway station in Feilding was built in 1887, and was extended and improved between 1897 and 1901. It remained, with only a few modifications, until it was partly destroyed by fire in 1960. Construction of the present station began a year later, and the buildings were officially opened in December 1961.

As the buildings in this photo are clearly made out of wood, it can be assumed that this is the original station, which puts the date of this photograph before 1960.
