Halcombe Post & Telegraph Office

This image shows several men outside the Halcombe Post & Telegraph Office, sitting on motorcycles. The appearance of the sidecar in this photograph suggests that it may have been taken in the early 1900's.

Oppatt Family Home, Sanson

The house shown in this image was built for August Oppatt and wife Wilhemina during the late 19th to early 20th centuries. It stood on State Highway, next to the Sanson service station _(see also MAN:200). _The style of the home is unusual for a house of this period, and may reflect the family's ethnic background.

The date of the photograph is unknown.

Troops on Kimbolton Road, c. 1940s

This image shows troops marching down Kimbolton Road in the 1940s, possibly as a send-off before they went overseas. There is a platform with the British flag which is believed to be a vantage point for dignitaries to review the troops as they march past.

Sanson, late 1870's

Photograph taken in the late 1870s. The Methodist church, built in 1875, is on the right with the manse immediately behind.

Situated on Fergusson Street. The Bank of New Zealand, to the right, stood on the corner of Fergusson and Manchester Streets.

Building situated on the corner of Weld Street and Kimbolton Road. Site currently occupied by The Warehouse carpark (2011).

Carlton Refreshment Rooms

The Carlton Refreshment Building situated on Fergusson Street.(Right hand side looking at the Railway Station, between Stafford & Aorangi Streets). Business owned by the Whitehead brothers. See Feilding Star, 31 August, 1905.

Apiti Hotel, circa 1970

Probably taken in the 1970s. The banner to the far right shows a member of the popular Hogsnort Rupert band whose 1970 hit song 'Pretty Girl' contained the line: "Come on my lover, give me a kiss". S.Johnson 2011

Kimbolton

This photograph, titled 'Birmingham' was taken prior to 1899 when the township's name was changed to Kimbolton. This was done to avoid postal confusion between the Manawatu village and Birminghan, UK. S.Johnson 2011

Sanson Service Station

Service station stood on same site as current (2011),newer building. Derelict wooden building to the left was the Oppatt family homestead. Built for August and Wilhemina Oppatt.
